Illuminators of the new Russian spacecraft will receive a shockproof nanocover

Porthole - window into space

Space workers – Soyuz ships have worked faithfully for almost half a century in the framework of the Soviet, and later Russian space programs. They are replaced by a new generation of manned vehicles, developed by the corporation “Energy”. The first launch will be carried out in an unmanned mode, and after about three years their scheduled operation should begin.

A unique impact-resistant nanocoating for portholes is one of the many engineering developments embodied in the new spacecraft. It was created as part of a joint project by the scientists of the Tomsk Polytechnic University and the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science.

Nanopokrytie safely protect against collisions with micrometeorites, space debris, and also block the path of solar radiation. In the course of rigorous testing, the scientists were convinced of its durability and had already received an order for the manufacture of the three portholes by the end of the next year.

A unique nanocoating will find its application in terrestrial conditions, in particular, in the manufacture of solar batteries .
